FRENCH TOAST BAKE!

This French Toast Bake is a heavenly breakfast treat combining rich flavors of buttery brown sugar, warm cinnamon, and soft bread. Prepared the night before, this easy recipe bakes to perfection for a delightful morning meal or brunch centerpiece.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 6

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup melted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 loaf of thickly sliced bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Cinnamon (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  • Melt butter in the microwave and stir in brown sugar until well mixed.
  • Pour the butter and sugar mixture into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  • In a bowl, beat together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Lay a single layer of bread slices in the prepared pan.
  • Spoon half of the egg mixture over the bread layer.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the bread and egg layer.
  • Add a second layer of sliced bread on top.
  • Spoon the remaining egg mixture over the top layer of bread.
  • Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the French Toast Bake for 45 minutes, covering it for the first 30 minutes to avoid over-browning.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle powdered sugar and additional cinnamon over the top.
  • Serve warm with maple syrup for a truly indulgent experience.

Notes

  • Use thickly sliced bread, such as brioche or Texas toast, for the best texture.
  • For added flavor, mix a pinch of nutmeg into the egg mixture.
  • If you prefer a crunchier topping, sprinkle chopped nuts on top before baking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
