Ingredients
-
The Base: 8 premium all-beef hot dogs, 8 hot dog buns (Brioche or top-split preferred).
-
The Garlic Butter: ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted), 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp dried parsley.
-
The Melt: 2 cups shredded cheese blend (Sharp Cheddar & Mozzarella).
-
The Garnish: Fresh chives or finely chopped parsley.
Instructions
-
Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the hot dog buns snugly in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Keeping them tight prevents them from tipping and ensures even cheese distribution.
-
Infuse: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, and dried parsley. Brush the interior of each bun generously with this mixture.
-
Stuff: Place one hot dog into each prepared bun. Optional: This is the perfect time to add a swipe of Dijon mustard or caramelized onions at the bottom.
-
Cheese: Pile the cheese blend over the top. Allow some cheese to fall between the buns—these bits will become the “crispy” edges.
-
Bake: Place the dish in the oven for 12–15 minutes. Bake until the cheese is bubbling and has developed golden-brown toasted spots.
-
Garnish: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with fresh chives or parsley. Serve hot while the cheese is molten.
Notes
-
The Bun Choice: Brioche buns are highly recommended because their high egg and butter content allows them to toast beautifully without becoming overly dry or hard.
-
No-Soggy Bottoms: If you find the buns get too soft, you can pre-toast them in the oven for 2 minutes before adding the hot dogs and cheese.
-
Cleanup Tip: If using a rimmed baking sheet instead of a casserole dish, line it with parchment paper for an easy cleanup of the melted cheese edges.
