Ingredients
- 4 medium russet potatoes
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This temperature ensures a crispy exterior while allowing the interior to become soft and fluffy.
- Prepare the Potatoes: Use a fork to poke several holes into each potato. This allows steam to escape during cooking, preventing the potatoes from bursting. Place the potatoes on the prepared baking sheet, generously rub each one with olive oil, and sprinkle liberally with sea salt all over. The oil helps the skin become crisp while the salt enhances flavor.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of your potatoes. They’re done when the skin is crisp and the interior is fork-tender when pierced.
- Serve: Remove the potatoes from the oven. Cut a slit along the top of each potato, gently press the ends to open it up, and fluff the insides with a fork. Serve immediately with your choice of toppings.
Notes
For extra crispy skin, you can rub the potatoes with oil and salt, then bake directly on the oven rack with a baking sheet on the rack below to catch any drips. For softer skin, wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil before baking. Classic toppings include butter, sour cream, chives, bacon, and cheese, but you can get creative with broccoli, chili, or even pulled pork.
