This delicious Caramel Apple Jam captures the cozy flavors of fall with sweet apples, rich caramelized brown sugar, and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Perfect as a spread on toast, a topping for desserts, or even a thoughtful gift for the holidays, this jam brings the essence of autumn into every jar.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 3 pints or approximately 6 half-pints 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups finely diced, peeled apples (Honey Crisp apples recommended)
  • 1/2 cup water (optional: substitute with 1/2 cup spiced rum, cinnamon whiskey, or bourbon)
  • 1/2 tsp butter
  • 1 package Sure-Jell (powdered fruit pectin)
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (heaping)
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • In a large stockpot, combine diced apples, water, and butter. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until apples are tender (about 10 minutes).
  • Stir in pectin, then bring the mixture to a rolling boil while stirring constantly.
  • Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then return to a rolling boil. Stir constantly for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat, skimming any foam. Ladle the hot jam into hot, sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.
  • Remove any air bubbles, wipe rims, and adjust lids. Process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
  • Twist jars gently from side to side while cooling to evenly distribute apple pieces throughout the jam.

Notes

  • Gently twist jars after cooling to evenly disperse apples in the jam.
  • Replace water with rum, bourbon, or cinnamon whiskey for an adult twist.
