Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Glaze (Optional):
- 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/2–1 tablespoon milk (optional)
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream Butter and Sugars:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Add egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Optionally, chill the dough for 30-40 minutes.
- Portion the Dough:
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 10-11 minutes, until edges are lightly browned. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the Glaze (Optional):
- In a large bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and maple syrup. Adjust the consistency with milk if needed. Drizzle over cooled cookies and let set.
Notes
- Chilling the Dough: Chilling the dough helps to firm it up, making it easier to handle and resulting in thicker, chewier cookies.
- Glaze Variation: You can add different extracts or a splash of bourbon to the glaze for a unique twist.
- Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
